Re-activity Collective

Re-activity Collective ⇌

RE⇌ACTIVITY (founded: 2018) is a publishing collective co-founded by Jessica Jindrich, Kundai Moyo, Hemali Khoosal, Kira de Carvalho, and Ethan Dube. Its primary focus is on elevating everyday modes of knowledge that are underacknowledged. Inspired by Thami Mnyele’s rogue political publishing strategies, the collective created a portable suitcase-cum-table.

With this, reactivity hosts free workshops on zine-making, silk-screen, and creative writing in parks, at bus-stops, and in other public areas. Central to the collective’s multimedia publications are informal forms of knowledge like recipe books, memes, oral histories, and conversations in bar bathrooms, public transport, or on digital platforms.

Published works by Reactivity Collective have been acquired by institutions such as the Jack Ginsberg Centre for Book Arts (Wits Art Museum) and Keleketla! Library. They have also been featured in several exhibitions and events, including:

The Bubblegum Club Zine Exhibition, Lephephe Print Gatherings 3 at Keleketla! Library, JHB, and Another Roadmap for Arts Education, at the Ba re e ne re Literature Festival in Rwanda.

Creative Conjuice-ivity is a series of zine-jam and poetry writing sessions letting people get their creative juices flowing, over a bottle of juice

Cache Rules Everything Around Me is a zine that playfully looks at digital archives and data

Notions in Motion is a box-set of conversation recordings from public transport, with a series of black-and-white photography

Thrift Drift is a zine that looks at hand-me-downs and other inherited material
